You walk out of the shop and the space where you parked is empty. Your heart drops, and for a minute you cannot think. If your car is stolen in Karachi, what to do next matters more than anything you did before, because the first hour is when the details are fresh and the vehicle may still be inside the city.

This guide walks through that hour in order, for cars and motorcycles alike, so you know exactly what to do if your car is stolen in Karachi or your bike disappears from outside the office.

One rule comes before every other step. Do not go after the thieves yourself.

Safety First: Never Chase or Confront

If the vehicle was snatched at gunpoint, let it go. A car or bike can be replaced. You cannot.

The same applies when a tracker shows you exactly where your vehicle is parked. Do not drive over to take it back. You have no idea who is waiting there or whether they are armed.

  • Move somewhere safe: a shop, a petrol station or anywhere with people around.
  • Check you are not hurt: if anyone needs medical help, that call comes first.
  • Write down what you remember: time, exact spot, direction they went, and anything about the people involved.

Speed helps here. Two calls should happen almost immediately.

Call CPLC

The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee runs a 24 hour call centre for stolen and snatched vehicles. CPLC’s own guidance says to call 1102, 021-35662222 or 021-35682222, or to visit any CPLC office.

To report stolen car CPLC needs the basics, so have them ready:

  • Registration number
  • Make and colour
  • Place where it happened

CPLC passes the report to Police Control and, once Police Control confirms it, enters the vehicle in its database.

Call Police 15

CPLC also advises informing the Police 15 control so the theft can be broadcast. If the vehicle was snatched, describe the suspects and the direction they took.

Filing the FIR

The First Information Report is the official police record of the theft. It shows the vehicle was out of your control from that moment, which matters if it is later misused.

Go to the police station that covers the area where the theft happened. Take your CNIC and the vehicle registration papers. Ask for a copy of the FIR before you leave and check the registration number, chassis and engine numbers against your papers.

FIR for stolen motorcycle Karachi owners

Bike owners sometimes skip the FIR. Do not. In 2019 the then Sindh IGP directed officers to register FIRs for motorbike and vehicle thefts even when the complainant was not interested, and to deliver the FIR to the complainant’s home. Instructions can change, but an FIR for stolen motorcycle Karachi cases is your record that the bike left your hands on that date.

Is there an online option?

The Sindh Police website lists online FIR registration and a complaint management system. In one reported 2023 case, Karachi police registered an FIR online for a car stolen while the complainant was in New York. Check the official site or ask CPLC whether an online route suits your case.

Tell Your Insurer and Your Tracker Company

Your insurer

Call your insurance company as soon as the police reports are done, or sooner if your policy asks for it. Notice periods are written into the policy, and some are short. One Jubilee General plan sold through HBL, for example, asks customers to inform the insurer or bank within 24 hours. Read your policy wording, note the claim reference and ask which documents they need.

Your tracker company

If your vehicle has a tracker, call the tracking company’s support line straight away. They can confirm the last reported location and help you share it with the police.

How to Track Stolen Car With GPS (and What Not to Do)

If you use a tracking app, open it and screenshot the live position.

  • Live location: shows where the vehicle is now, which you pass to Police 15 and CPLC.
  • Route history and playback: shows where it went after it left you.
  • Ignition and geofence alerts: if the car started or left a set zone when it should not have, the alert time helps pin down when the theft happened.
  • Remote engine cut: a tracker with an immobiliser can stop the engine from restarting.

Use these to help the police, not to stage your own recovery. Share the location with the officers handling your case and let them decide when and how to act, including whether and when the engine should be cut.

To track stolen car with GPS, the device has to be installed before the theft. For setup and prevention, read our guides on the remote engine immobiliser and stopping a motorcycle being taken.

For Fleet Owners: Build the First Hour Into Your Policy

When a company car is stolen in Karachi, what to do should already be written down, not left to the driver to improvise. Keep these details in every vehicle:

  • CPLC and Police 15 numbers
  • Registration, chassis and engine numbers
  • Insurance policy number and claim line
  • Who in the office to call, and who files the FIR

The fleet manager can then watch the vehicle on the dashboard and update police while the driver stays safe. Our guide on how to prevent vehicle theft in a fleet covers the prevention side, and the Karachi GPS tracker page explains local tracking options.

Frequently Asked Questions

What number do I call to report a stolen car in Karachi?

CPLC’s 24 hour call centre is 1102, with 021-35662222 and 021-35682222 as alternatives. CPLC also advises calling Police 15 so the theft is broadcast.

Do I need an FIR if my motorcycle is stolen?

Yes. The FIR is the official record that the bike was taken, and your insurer and the police will rely on it. Get a copy before you leave the station.

Should I go to the location my tracker shows?

No. Never chase or confront thieves yourself. Share the live location with the police and let them handle the recovery.

When should I inform my insurance company?

As soon as possible. Policies set their own notice periods, and some are as short as 24 hours, so check your policy wording.

The first hour goes much better when you can see exactly where your vehicle is. Get a demo of Fleetile to see live tracking, route playback and remote engine cut working before you ever need them.
